Russell L. Kessler, 88, of West Lawn, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 in Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Carlene F. (Scherrer) to whom he had been married for 66 years.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Russell G. and Catherine (Ansel) Kessler.
Russell was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Spring.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict.
Russell was a milkman at Clover Farms until his retirement. He later worked as a courier for Shurfine Markets.
He was a lifetime member of Goodwill Beneficial Association, Hyde Park, where he was also a member of the Teamsters Local Union 429. Russell was also a member of the American Legion.
Russell was a family man and will always be remembered for his contagious smile.
In addition to his wife, Russell is survived by three children: Ronald R., husband of Donna Kessler, Leesport; Kitty A. Pflueger, Blandon; and David A. Kessler, West Lawn. Two sisters: Jacquelyn S. Hess, Laureldale, and Barbra Loeb, Reading; five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive him.
Russell was predeceased by one great grandson, Brandt A. Pflueger.
Services will be Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA. Burial will follow in Leesport Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 498 E Bellevue Ave, Reading, PA 19605.
