Russell A. Heckman

Russell A. Heckman, Sr., 87 formerly of Hamburg died in the Laurel Center, Tilden Township where he had resided since June 28th, 2005. He was the widower of Lorena M. (Moyer) Heckman who died June 9, 2010. Russell was born in Hamburg and was the son of the late Richard and Agnes (Heckman) Heckman. Russell was a member of the United States Marine Corp serving during WWII. He was a qualified Rifle Marksman and served in Guam. He received an honorable discharge and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked for Heckman Brothers Brick Layers for many years as a bricklayer. He then worked at Car Tech as a brick layer for 37 years retiring in 1985. He and his late wife where co-owners of Hecky's Sub Shop, Hamburg for several years. Russell was a former member of the following: Goodwill Fire Company, Rehrsburg Fire Company and Mt. Pleasant Fire Company. Two daughters, survive him Rebecca A. wife of Carl Boltz, Auburn, Paula J. wife of Leon Huey, Jefferson Township, two sons, Russell A. Heckman, Jr. and his wife Karen, Bernville and Steven A. Heckman husband of Pam Heckman, Upper Bern Township. Eight grandchildren, one step-grandson and thirteen great-grandchildren and one great great granddaughter and one brother, George husband of Nancy Heckman, Hamburg, also survive him. Twelve brothers and sisters predeceased Russell. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friedens Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 366, Shartlesville, PA. 19554. The family would like to publically thank the Laurel Center and its entire staff for the wonderful care Russ received during his stay at Laurel. The Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc.
