Russell J. Bortz

Russell J. Bortz, 75, of Oley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 1:51pm in his residence.

Born in Bechtelsville, he was a son of the late Jonathan G. and Verna R. (Benfield) Bortz.

He was employed in the Maintenance Department at Wagner Electric (now Federal Mogul), Boyertown, for 51 years until retiring.

He was an Army Veteran and was a Lifetime Member of the Liberty Fire Company, the Friendship Hook and Ladder Fire Company and the Pike Township Sportsmans Association. He enjoyed cars and motorcycles and attending the Leesport Farmers Market and Sale. In years past he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his 2 Daughters: Robin L. Schmale of Bechtelsville and Roslyn A., wife of Brian D. Moatz of Boyertown. Also his Step Son: Cameron J. Bortz of Groton Long Point, OR and 4 Brothers: David of Oley; Floyd of Ringling, OK; Chester of Birdsboro and Willard (Butch) of Boyertown. Also surviving are 4 Sisters: Anna Conrad of Pikeville; Linda Kolb and Virginia Kuser, both of Boyertown and Mae Bortz of Blandon as well as 4 Grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a Sister: Dorothy Eidle

Services for Russell will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Blankenbiller Funeral Home, 423 Main Street, Oley. Interment will follow in Lobachs Cemetery, Pikeville. Friends and Family may view on Thursday from 9:00-11:00 am in the funeral home.
