Russel Sterner

Russel Harry Sterner, Jr., 88, died February 1, 2015 in his Ontelaunee Township residence.

He was the husband of LaRue Mae (Foltz) Sterner, whom he married September 29, 1952.

Born Nov. 2, 1926 in Reading, he was a son of the late Russel Harry, Sr. and Emma M. Sterner.

Russel was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

He was employed as a roll grinder with Carpenter Technology for 35 years. Along with his wife, he also owner and operated Sterner's Candies, Ontelaunee Township, for over 45 years.

Russel served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his two children: Michael D., husband of Laurie (Wagaman) Sterner of Ruscombmanor Township and Robin L., wife of Philip J. Morganti of Ontelaunee Township.

Other survivors include his four grandchildren, Janine Sterner, Gina DeMaskey, Steven Morganti and Brett Sterner and two great grandchildren, Taylor Cunningham and Luca DeMaskey.

Russel was predeceased by a son, Steven C. Sterner who died in 1984 and his three sisters, Mildred Gauker, Gladys Leinbach and June Slonaker.

Services will be Thursday at 12 noon in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
