Royce G. Hess

Royce G. Hess, 74 died May 1 at 9:55 AM in his residence in Lincoln Park.

He was the husband of Diana C. (Rineer) Hess.

Born in Fawn Grove, York County he was the son of the late Orion M. and T. Ordella (Almoney) Hess.

Hess was first employed by Bell Telephone Co. in their Lancaster Office. In 1965, he was transferred to Reading where he became supervisor, first in Bell Telephone's test center and later in their installation and repair department until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement he worked part time for Doug's Family Pharmacy, Morgantown from 1989 to 1993.

He was a graduate of Delta High School in 1948. (Delta, PA, York County)

Hess was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was deployed on the Runner SS 476 Submarine.

Hess was a former member of Conestoga Country Club, Lancaster County. In 1962 he won the Conestoga Country Club Pro-Am.

He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Charles M. Howell Lodge #496 F&AM, Creigh Council #16 R.&S.M., West Reading, REading Royal Arch Chapter #152 and Reading Knights Templar Commandery #009.

He is also survived by one son Douglas R., Birdsboro and one daughter Cindy A. (Hess) Bennethum, Sinking Spring. There is also one sister Roma J. (Hess) Hodge, Fawn Grove. There are also 5 grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 PM in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
