Roy R. Bilger Former Coach at West Reading High School.
Roy Bilger, 85, of Wyomissing, died March 31, 2011 in St. Joseph Hospital.
He was the husband of Mary (Speigelmire) Bilger.
Born June 12, 1925 in Selinsgrove, PA, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Martha (Renninger) Bilger.
Mr. Bilger was a graduate of Selinsgrove High School and Susquehanna University.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation radio instructor at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station and Memphis Naval Air Training Center.
He was employed as a business teacher at the former Morgantown High School during 1951-1952. In 1952 he was employed as a business teacher at the West Reading High School. He also coached basketball and coached the West Reading Cowboys to two State Championships in 1959 and 1960.
In 1960, he was employed as a marketing representative by the McGraw-Hill Book Company, Syracuse, NY.
In 1966, he assumed the duties as a District Manager and a specialist in training for the Middle Atlantic Area and was transferred to King of Prussia. He retired from McGraw-Hill in August, 1989.
Mr. Bilger was an avid sports fan. He lettered in baseball and football in high school. He also played varsity baseball at Susquehanna University.
He loved his Eagles, Phillies and Sixers.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bilger is survived by two daughters. Janet Savino, Wyomissing and Cheryn Moyer, Reinholds; two sons, David Bilger, Havelock, NC and Donald Bilger, Jackson Village, NH. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Sellers, Lewisburg. He is survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Bilger.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd. Wyomissing, PA 19610. Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
