Roy Lester Adam

Roy Lester Adam, 79, of Shoemakersville, died Friday, Feb. 7, in his home. Born at home in what is now Lenhartsville, he was the son of the late Lester S. Adam and Alma C. (Clauss) Adam.

Following the completion of his GED, he enlisted in the United States Army and did two tours in-country during the Vietnam War. He served as a helicopter mechanic in the 243rd Assault Support Helicopter Company AKA "Freight Train." After returning home, he worked as a brake lineman for the Reading Railroad, a line worker at NGK Metals, and the head groundskeeper for the cemetery at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hamburg.

He enjoyed pin shooting and won various awards at local gun clubs, and he was an avid Harley Davidson rider in his younger years. He also enjoyed computer games and playing on his Xbox, reading/watching science fiction, and had a strong sweet tooth (but especially favored butterscotch Krimpets).

He is predeceased by his parents and three siblings: Janet M. Meadows of Auburn; Jean S. Noss of Lynn Township; and Larry Adam of Hamburg.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 32 years, Debra A. (Murray) Adam; children, Jason C. Althouse of Hamburg and wife Avery (Kramer), Terrilyn R. Althouse of Myerstown, Lauren E. (Althouse) Stevens and her fiancé, Nicholas Keller, of Shartlesville, and Zoey J. Adam of Shoemakersville and her fiancé, Leonardo A. López Carreño of Lima, Peru; siblings, Ruth Ann (Adam) Krause Gernert of Palmyra and Terry L. Adam of Centerport and partner Cindy, and 8 grandchildren: Michael, Kaiden, Madison, Ryan, Xavier, Natalee, Dustin, and Alexander.

A private viewing will be held for immediate family, and he will be honored for his military service at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Kuhn Funeral Home at 40 S Fourth St, Hamburg.
