Rosemary E. Bestwick

Rosemary E. Bestwick, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on June 15, 2026. She was 92 years old.

Born in 1933 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Grace E. (Fenstermaker) Walker. She lived in Sharon through high school, later attended Vassar College following her mother's and aunt's footsteps there, and later transferred to Grove City College. Rosemary's greatest love story began long before most--she met the man who would become her husband when she was just in the eight grade, the late David M. Bestwick. Their bond, rooted in the innocence of youth, grew into a lifetime of devotion.

She was a devoted mother to her four children, Robert, Catherine (Greg Ciatto), Nancy (Phillip Tietbohl) and Scott (who predeceased her) and cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who were all the joy of her later years. The family moved 7 times by the time the family moved to Reading where David and a partner bought his first business, Business Equipment and Supply Co. on South 4th Street in Reading. At each stop Rosemary was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and gave each of her children an appreciation for the outdoors.

Rosemary took up golf at the age of 35, taking lessons at Heidelberg Country Club and she and her husband enjoyed playing socially with their friends there and the Berkshire Country Club in Reading and later in Palm Beach Gardens Florida where she belonged to Eastpointe Country Club and Ibis Country Club. She found peace and happiness at the family cottage that belonged to her parents on Walkers Point in Ontario, Canada, where summers meant swimming, laughter, scrabble and chinese checkers and the kind of unhurried time that creates lasting memories.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A visitation will be held Friday, June 19th from 1-1:30pm with a memorial service to begin at 1:30pm at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Boulevard, Wyomissing, PA 19610. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Olivets Boys and Girls Club of Reading and Berks County at 1161 Pershing Boulevard, Reading, PA 19611.
