Rosa Ugliuzza

Rosa (Pontorno) Ugliuzza, 94, of Reading, died May 24, 2008 at 11:45 pm in the Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Reading.

She was the widow of Benedetto Ugliuzza, who died in November of 1969.

Born on March 27, 1914 in Santo Stefano, Sicily, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Alessandro and Marcella (Presti) Pontorno.

She was employed ten years as a seamstress with Oritsky's, Reading.

Rosa was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

She loved to cook, bake cookies and visit Italy once a year. She also maintained a close relationship with her friends and family both in Reading and Italy.

Rosa is survived by five children; Ignazio, husband of Grazia Ugliuzza of Ephrata; Santo Ugliuzza of Reading; Alessandro, husband of Pina Ugliuzza of Sinking Spring; Maria, widow of Angustino Ninfo of Lower Heidelberg Township and Anna, wife of Giovanni Maimone of Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily, Italy.

Other survivors include a brother; Giuseppe Pontorno of Ravenna, Italy; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

There are also many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews surviving.

She was predeceased by a daughter; Marcella Franco, wife of Salvatore Franco.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 am in Holy Rosary R.C. Church, 3rd & Franklin Streets, Reading, PA 19602, with Msgr. Felix Losito celebrating. A viewing will be held 8:00 - 9:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
