Ronald Maurice "Reese" Ponton, 47, formerly of West Reading and of Reading, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2021, in the Reading Hospital.
Born in Pittsburgh in 1973, he moved to West Reading in 1984 with his parents Jimmy and Gail O. (Jones) Latham. His birth father, Nolan Ponton, and his wife, Sharon Ponton, reside in Maryland.
Reese was a graduate of Wyomissing Area High School in 1992. He worked at Reading Body and later for Interstate Container as a machinist.
He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, West Lawn, where he was baptized on July 23, 2017.
Family was most important to Reese; he loved to spend time with his children. He also liked to fish and take walks, always willing to walk anywhere in a moment's notice. Reese loved to ride and tinker with his motorcycle. Passionate about the Hope Rescue Mission, he spent countless hours volunteering his time to make the Mission a better place for others. He was "Mr. Fix-it" and was always there for anyone with his toolbox in hand.
He is survived by his children: Raven J. Ponton, Pittsburgh; Trinity C. Ponton, Reading; Ciera C. Ponton, a student at Duquesne University; and Maurice C. Ponton, a rising senior at Wyomissing Area High School. There are five siblings: Nolan Darnell "Lenny" Ponton, Jr., West Reading; Christian (Michelle) Flowers, West Chester; Champagne Latham Miller (Kurt), Wyomissing; Stacey Pompey (Delon), Bowie MD; and Tera Latham O'Bryant (Adrieal), West Lawn. His former spouse, Amy C. Putalavage, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles also survive him.
A celebration of Reese's life will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, West Lawn. Burial will follow at Charles Evans Cemetery. A visitation with friends and family will be held on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at Glad Tidiings. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hope Rescue Mission. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is honored to assist the Ponton family. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
