Ronald G. Krick

Ronald G. Krick, 68, devoted father, passed away December 26, 2011, in his Spring Township residence.

Born in Reading he was a son of the late William and Fern (Biffel) Krick.

He was a graduate of West Reading High School in 1961 and University of Cincinnati in 1965.

Ron was a former West Reading athlete who led the Cowboys to three straight Class C state basketball championships, was named to two All-State teams (1959 & 1961) and was selected All-Berks in all four years of his high school playing career (1958-61). Ron broke Wilt Chamberlain's then state scoring record finishing with 3,174 points, a 32 plus PPG average and earned national prominence with his election to the Parade and Scholastic All-American teams (1960 & 1961). Despite severe shoulder injuries, Krick played four seasons of college basketball at the University of Cincinnati, which won the Missouri Valley crown when he was a senior. He was drafted into the NBA by the Cincinnati Royals, but shoulder injuries short-circuited his athletic career, which also included track and field during high school. Ron finished his career playing for the Exeter Black Knights team that won the National Amateur Basketball Tournament, wherein he was named the tournament MVP (1970).

Ron is survived by his son, Reid W., husband of Laura Krick, Wernersville; his daughter, Shaan R. Schaeffer, Reading; his brother, William R., Krick, companion of Carole Weik, West Reading and his companion, Elaine Willingmyre with whom he resided.
