Rodney D. Hermann, 79, of Sinking Spring, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in the care of Reading Hospital. Husband to Beth B. (Behney) Hermann, they shared over 57 loving years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was one of the three children of the late Matthias and Viola (Snyder) Hermann. Rod graduated from Reading High School in 1962 and from Kutztown State College in 1967.
A dedicated educator, Mr. Hermann inspired countless students. His career began with Wyomissing School District, and during his second year of teaching, he transitioned to Conrad Weiser High School from where he retired as the Earth Science Instructor after a career spanning 30 years. His students enthusiastically greeted him no matter where they encountered him for many years following their time in his classroom.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of West Reading.
Outside of the classroom, Rod was an active outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, especially along the Delaware River. His adventurous spirit extended to a love of motorcycles, and, until a decade ago, he was still riding his beloved Yamaha. He was a passionate Eagles and Phillies fan.
In addition to his beloved wife, Beth, Rod is survived by their son, Chad Hermann, husband of Wendy, of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Adam Hermann, fiancé of Stephanie Hatala, and Ethan Hermann, all of Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rod's memory may be made to either the Sierra Club, https://www.sierraclub.org/, or to the American Cancer Society, https://www.cancer.org/.
A Celebration of Life for Rod will be held at a future date to be announced.
