Robert LeRoy Wollyung, 86, passed away on September 5, 2025, in his Mohnton residence with his loving family surrounding him. Bob was the dedicated husband of Christine A. (Maize), with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He was born in Reading to the late Robert C. and Helen E. (Fisher) Wollyung.
He graduated from Reading High School in 1957. Bob was a proud veteran, having served on aircraft carriers of the US Navy's 7th Fleet headquartered in Yokosuka, Japan. He enlisted on January 23, 1958, and served honorably until his discharge on January 5, 1962. His job was always the flight deck operations of catapults and arresting gear; the launching and recovery of the finest military aircraft of that era. His time in the West Pacific instilled in him a deep appreciation for service and sacrifice, which he carried forward throughout his life.
A skilled clock and watchmaker, Bob dedicated over 54 years to his craft. He began his career with Wm H. Diller Jeweler in West Reading and then ventured out as an independent craftsman, sharing his expertise as a jeweler and appraiser.
An avid fisherman and lover of the outdoors, Bob cherished tranquil moments spent at Bobs Lake in Ontario, Canada. The lake was his absolute favorite vacation and fishing spot for more than 35 years where he found solace in the beauty of each sunrise and sunset. The cottage at the lake was his home away from home.
Bob's family was his greatest treasure, and his finest legacy was the depth of his love for his family and friends. It was always what anchored him and gave meaning and purpose to his life.
His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife, Christine; their daughters, Alice Craley, wife of James Craley, of Bowmansville, and Anne Reinert, wife of Kenneth Reinert, of Plowville; and granddaughter, Olivia Reinert, of Philadelphia. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Wollyung and wife Diane Wollyung of Hamburg, as well as nieces, nephews, and their families.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob's memory may be offered to the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern PA, 919 Walnut St, Unit 700, Philadelphia PA 19107, or online at https://www.efepa.org/.
A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held at his family's convenience. Private internment will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
