Robert T. Heist

Our beloved father, friend and grandfather passed peacefully in his Sinking Spring residence on November 12, 2008.

He is predeceased by his wife, Marilyn C. (Scheibner) Heist since October 13, 2000.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Carl and Antoinette (Cardinal) Heist-Binder and step-son of the late James Binder. He is survived by his son Thomas A. and his wife, Debra with two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Benjamin.

He is also survived by his daughters, Elizabeth M. Keller and Ann P. Heist.

Other survivors include a sister, Mary Ellen, wife of Joseph Maxymillian of Sinking Spring, both whom have been lovingly involved in Robert's care.

He was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Kutztown State College.

Robert was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.

His profession was that of a claims adjustor for Penn Mutual Insurance Company, retiring in 1998.

On a local level he was a Past President and served on the Borough Council of West Reading.

In addition, Robert was a member of the Lincoln Park Fire Company and Victor Emmanuel Beneficial Association.

While raising his children, he was chairman of the YMCA Indian Guides program and the West Reading Playground Association. He also served as a board member of the Selective Service System.

Robert served time in the US Army and Navy during the Korean War and had a love of those serving our country.

Since retirement, Robert operated a chaeffeur business and volunteered for the Keystone Bloodmobile.

He also was in love with cooking Italian and PA Duch cuisine. Fishing was another highlight with cousins. He reconected with many friends, especially his dear high school friend, Elinor (Fleming) Fitzpatrick.

A beloved friendly man and neighbor, with his great sense of humor, will be greatly missed.
