Robert A. Steckbeck, 93, of Wyomissing, passed away August 29, 2013 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the companion of Catherine Bickel, Wyomissing. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leona M. (Flowers) Steckbeck in 1985 and his second wife, B. Judith (Stine) Steckbeck in 2001.
Born in Bluffton, Indiana, he was the son of the late Warren J. and Irene B. (Whitman) Steckbeck.
Robert was a graduate of Central High School, Scranton, PA and in 1942 he graduated from Keystone Junior College, LaPlume, PA.
He was a Specialized Report Supervisor for Dun and Bradstreet, Inc., Scranton; Assistant Purchasing Agent for Bowers Battery and Spark Plug Co., Reading; and was employed for 26 years by the former Berkshire International Corp. as Office Manager, Director of Industrial Relations and Plant Manager. In 1974 he joined American Argo Corp., Schuylkill Haven, retiring in 1993 as Vice President of Human Resources.
Robert was an Army veteran of World War II, past President of the Reading Chapter Administrative Society, a past member of the Reading Rotary, a former member of the Bern Township Lions Club, past Director of the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, past Director of the Manufacturers Association of Middle, PA (MAMP), Pottsville, past President of the Society of Human Resource Management, Pottsville, past Treasurer of Epler's U.C.C. Church, Bern Township, and past Director of the Green Valley Country Club, Sinking Spring.
He was a member of St. Mark's U.C.C. Church, Reading.
In addition to Catherine, he is survived by his two sons: Robert L., husband of Gloria A. Steckbeck, Reading and Keith J., husband of Christine A. Steckbeck, Reading. Also surviving are his two grandchildren: Tracy A., wife of Kevin S. Bowers, Reading; Brian S., husband of Tina M. Steckbeck, Birdsboro; and three grandchildren: Tyler S. Bowers, Jillian C. Bowers, and Justin W. Steckbeck.
Robert was predeceased by his sister, Irene Cassabaum.
Services will be Friday at 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
