Robert W. Spayd

Robert "Stu" W. Spayd, 71 formerly of Windsor Township died surrounded by his loving daughters on March 16th in the Reading Hospital & Medical Center where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. He was previously a resident at the Kutztown Manor since 2007. He was the widower of Jean A. (Pavalko) Spayd who died February 18, 1990. Stu was born in Middleport and was the son of the late George R. and Mary B. (Chickarda) Spayd. He was an army veteran and worked for 28 years as a shipper for Glen Gery, Shoemakersville, retiring in February 1998. Stu fought a courageous battle against multiple sclerosis for 16 years. He was a member of St. Mary' Roman Catholic Church, Tilden Township. Stu was a former member of the following organizations: Hamburg Fish & Game Association, Wagner-Good Post V.F.W., Hamburg and the Union Fire Company #1, Hamburg. He is survived by 2 daughters: Sandra J. wife of Robert Dvoor, Flemington, NJ, Erica A. Spayd, Mulhenberg, 2 grandchildren: Jacob and Jacqueline Dvoor, 3 brothers: Ronald husband of Tina Spayd, Middleport, William Spayd , Middleport and George Spayd, Jr.Schuylkill Haven, 2 sisters: Shirley wife of John Hudick, Wallingford, CT. and Jeanne Spayd, Schuylkill Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday and from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th, Hamburg on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Hamburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 501 Crescent Ave., Reading, Pa. 19605.
