Robert R. Sharetts, 95, passed away at The Highlands at Wyomissing on December 27, 2024.

His wife, Janice N. (Neuroth) Sharetts, passed away on December 25, 2017. They were married on November 26,1949 and enjoyed over 68 years of marriage.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late J. Lloyd and Marvel (Rice) Sharetts.

He was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School and Penn State University where he earned his degree in Chemical Engineering and was a member of the Penn State Blue Band playing the French horn.

Bob had a 53 year career beginning at American Cyanimid, Stamford, CT as a research lab technician. He was a Development Engineer for Firestone Plastics, Pottstown, spent 30 years in product development, manufacturing, and sales for Polymer Corporation, and was the firm administrator for 15 years at Reinsel & Company, Reading. Bob was the inventor and holder of three US registered patents.

He was very active in his community. Bob was a Hawk Mountain Council Boy Scouts of America boy scout, troop leader, board member, VC for camping, programming, advancement and was on the endowment committee for 36 years. He was a member of Toastmasters where he served as president for five years. He was a board member and past president of the Schuylkill Valley School District School Board, Atonement Lutheran Church Council, and the Berks County Senior Citizens Council. He was also a board member and endowment committee chair for 12 years for the Berks Visiting Nurse Association. Bob became very involved at The Highlands, once he and Janice moved there. He served on the following committees: Hospitality, Public Affairs, Grounds & Maintenance, Endowment, Fitness, Marketing, The Highlandaires, was a tutor for Ready-Set-Read and volunteered with The Greater Berks Food Bank. He also developed, organized and led "Coffee with Bob" which were meetings with dementia and Alzheimer's disease support groups for residents and caregivers and "Bean Bag Baseball" games for residents and personal care staff. He initiated the resident request to secure a new putting green and initiated ping-pong and quoit pit relocations.

Bob was honored by the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver Award, recognition of exceptional character and distinguished scouting service.

Bob enjoyed bridge, golf, tennis, quoits, ping-pong, shuffleboard, and Civil War history.

He is survived by a son, Scott, husband of June Sharetts, Vorhees, NJ and a daughter, Wendy Sharetts, Wyomissing. Five grandchildren: Andrew, husband of Paxton; Stephanie, wife of Paul, Jenna, wife of Evan, Brett, husband of Courtney, and Ryan. Four great grandsons and one great granddaughter also survive him.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at The Highlands at Wyomissing, burial will follow at Alsace Cemetery. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is honored to assist the Sharetts family. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
