Robert J. Machamer

Robert J. Machamer, 84 formerly of Hometown went to be with his Lord on June 28, 2010. He was the dedicated and loving husband of Alice (Wolff) Machamer to whom he was married to 40 years. Alice went to be home with her Lord in 1990. Robert was born in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County and was the son of the late John and Mary (Jones) Machamer. He worked for 30 years for the Former Atlas Powder Company, Tamaqua as a powder operator retiring in 1989. After retiring, he worked as a security guard part time at Lake Wynonah. Robert was a 1943 graduate of Mahanoy High School. He then proudly served his country in the European Theatre as an Army Veteran during WWII. He was a Bronze Star recipient. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church of Hawk Mountain. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. and the Fraternal Order of Police. Robert was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Suzy L. wife of Gary P. Billman, Orwigsburg, 3 grandchildren, Holly (Billman) Zurich, Monroe, Conn., Amy Billman, Bloomsburg, PA and Michael G. Billman, Orwigsburg and a great grandson, Jack Zurich. He was predeceased by a son: Frederick Robert Machamer in 1953, 2 sisters, Mary Lou Schreyer, Ada M. Kalinock and a brother, David Machamer. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S 4th Street, Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
