Robert L. Smith

Robert L. "Smitty" Smith, 87, of Alsace Township, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center where he was a patient.

He was married on June 14, 1952 to his surviving wife, Ruth A. (Roth) Smith.

Born in Angelica, he was a son of the late Henry and Joanna (Kohl) Smith.

He was employed by the Northeast Lumber Company and lastly worked for Branch Motor Express until retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Salem Shalters Lutheran Church, Alsace Township and had served on the Church Council. He was also a member of Teamsters #429 and the Retirees Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a Sister: Ella, wife of Robert Snyder of Shillington and a Sister-in-law: Eunice Smith of Grill. Also surviving are 29 Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by 8 siblings.

Services will be held in Salem Shalters Lutheran Church, 2032 Mount Laurel Road, Fleetwood, Pa. 19522 on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment in the church cemetery. Friends and Family may view on Friday from 9:30-11:00 am. Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to the church at the above address or Berks Encore Meals on Wheels, 40 North 9th Street, Reading, Pa. 19601. Blankenbiller Funeral Home, Oley, is in charge of arrangements.
