Robert A. Hiester

Robert A. Hiester, 84, of Shillington, died January 10, 2009, in Reading Hospital.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Cecelia Hiester.

Robert was a truck driver for 33 years for Exide Corporation, retiring in 1992.

He received the Safe Driving Award from Teamsters #429 of Reading for 33 years of safe driving.

Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Italy. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished WW II Badge, European Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the WW II Victory Medal.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra A. Delp, Mohnton; and Tracey M., wife of David Lewis, Sinking Spring. He was predeceased by his son, Bobby Hiester. He is also survived by Betty Werley with whom he resided.

He is also survived by six grandchildren; Dawn Sarig, Johnny Delp, Jennifer Brady, Jason Delp, David Lewis, and Amelia Lewis; and nine great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Brenda Moyer, also predeceased him.

Memorial Services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Arlington National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605.
