Robert T. Getty Jr., 82, passed away on September 30, 2025. He would have celebrated 58 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia “Ginny” A. (Maccarone) Getty this October 14.
Born to the late Robert T. Getty, Sr., and Thelma (Welch) Getty, Bob cherished his formative years spent on Shelter Island, NY, where he developed his love of the sea and boating. He graduated from the SUNY Maritime College at Ft. Schuyler in the Bronx, NY, in 1965 and served as a Merchant Marine and later in the Naval Reserves. Sailing was a passion through much of his life, and he sailed "Our Dream" for many years throughout the Chesapeake Bay with Ginny, his “first mate.”
Bob worked as an engineer for Gilbert Commonwealth, later known as Parsons, as a systems controls specialist for power plants throughout the U.S. and abroad and continued consulting for the firm after his retirement.
A loving father and adoring grandfather, Bob treasured time with his family. Bob was also a lifelong tinkerer. Whether it was automobile engines in the 60’s, home electronics in the 70’s or personal computers in the 80’s, Bob was a classic DIY-er. He was also a longtime Eagles fan—go Birds! And he enjoyed traveling the world with Ginny and spending winter months in Destin, FL.
Left to treasure Bob's memory are his wife, Ginny; their sons, Robert Getty III, husband of Erin Collins Getty, of Hermosa Beach, CA, and Matthew Getty, husband of Cheri Getty, of Carlisle, PA; and granddaughters, Sophia and Maddy Getty. Bob is also survived by his sister, Ann Getty Beckwith, wife of Charles Beckwith, of Shelter Island.

A mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605. Friends and family may view and visit from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 5153 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560.
