Robert J. Essick, Sr., 73, of Cumru Township, passed away February 3, 2013 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Judy L. (Rhine) Essick.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Peter and Lucy (Frisola) Essick.

Bob was a 1957 graduate of Liberty High School.

He worked for various companies from New Hampshire to Florida. He became an antique dealer and was the co-owner of an antique mall. After retiring in 2009 he worked part time for Miller Keystone Blood Center as a courier for 3 years, last working on February 1st.

Bob was a train buff and spent many hours working on his train layout and just enjoying the trains going around the track. He also became a member of E-Bird and would spend many hours looking for unusual birds posted on the site. He looked forward every year to seeing the Snow Geese at Middle Creek Game Reserve.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons: Robert J. Essick, Jr., Donald R. Buckley; two daughters: Carmen, wife of William Manwaring, Kelly L., wife of Rory Anderson; three grandsons: Darien Anderson, Collin Ray Anderson, Rowan M. Buckley; two granddaughters: Samantha Manwaring, Mandi Whitaker and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are his brother, George Essick and his mother-in-law, Jane, widow of Lee Rhine.

Robert was predeceased by his beloved brother, Donald A. Essick.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611 to help defray final expenses. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
