Robert Richard Eckert

Dr. Robert R. Eckert, 69, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in his Mohnton residence. The cause was related to physical health problems that resulted from struggles with mental illness. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Nish) Eckert, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage, and a proud father and grandfather.

Born in Hecla, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Margaret (Kemner) Eckert. Bob attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, where he was a member of the Kappa Psi fraternity (where he met his wife and played trumpet in the band) and president of the Alpha Tau chapter of Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society. He graduated in 1978 and worked as a pharmacist before returning to study at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduating with his Doctorate in Osteopthy in1986, he completed his medical residency at Reading Hospital. He cared for patients both at the hospital and in private practice for 37 years.

Until quite recently, Bob was a long distance runner, participating in races and marathons both local and out of state. He was an avid fan of Penn State, the Eagles and the Phillies and enjoyed reading about American history.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Justine Eckert Masino, wife of Michael, of Downingtown; sons, Nicholas A. Eckert, partner of Jon Santos, of Manahawkin, NJ, and Vincent P. Eckert, at home; grandsons, Declan Reed Masino and Kayden Anthony Masino; sisters-in-law, Ginny Nish Arndt (Rick) and Patty Nish Weiler (Steve); and supportive nieces and nephews: Lisa, Patrick, Joe, Michael, Bridget, Jennifer, and Holly. He is also survived by brother, John Eckert, husband of Kimberly; sisters, Carol Eckert Schneider and Marilyn Eckert Fregiato; and their families.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611. Eulogies and words of remembrance will be shared at 7:00 p.m.
