Robert R. "Ducky" Dohner, 69, of Perry Township, died of natural causes August 21, 2006 at 6:04 pm in Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been since August 9th.
He was the husband of Carole Ann (Weidenhammer) Dohner, who he married September 14, 1957.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Irving R. and Violet M. (Arndt) Dohner.
He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Shoemakersville, where he was the president of Lutheran Church Council and a member of the St. Luke's Church Board.
Bob was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran in the Air National Guard where he worked as an airplane mechanic.
He was employed for 30 years as a Patrolman with the Reading Police Department working in the K-9, Motorcycle and Criminal Investigator Divisions before retiring from the department in 1990. He was honored as Police Officer of the Year in 1969 and is a life member of the Reading Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #9.
Bob was then employed 12 years as a county detective in the Berks County District Attorneys office, retiring in 2002.
He was a 1955 graduate of Reading High School and a 1960 graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Hershey.
Bob was the secretary of White Deer Hunting Club, Reading and a Lt. Commander and secretary of Schuylkill River Power Squadron.
He was also a member of Northmont Fellowship Association and Mount Pleasant Fire Company.
Bob is also survived by a daughter, Sue A. (Dohner) wife of Barry Sayer of Temple and three sons, Craig R. husband of Michele A. (Jewell) Dohner of Felton, Delaware, Dale R. husband of Tammy R. (Simonds) Dohner of Clarksville, TN and Scott R. husband of Kim L. (Reynolds) Dohner of Mt. Eden, KY.
Other survivors include a brother, Irvin R. husband of June (Houck) Dohner of Myrtle Beach, SC, two aunts, Edith V. Dohner and Arline (Arndt) Kerling both of Reading and one niece, Melissa and one nephew, Todd.
There are also seven grandchildren, Robert, Emerald, Craig Jr., Ryan, Jeremy, Amanda and Kevin.
Services will be Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 5th & Franklin Streets, Shoemakersville, Pa 19555. Viewing will take place Friday 6:00 - 8:00 pm in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale. No viewing Saturday. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
