Robert A. Charlanza, 79, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 9, 2018, in his Shillington home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 1, 1939, in Philadelphia, Bob was the only son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Quinn) Charlanza. He celebrated 54 wonderful years of marriage to Carol Ann (Zadlo) Charlanza.
Bob joined the U.S. Marines after graduating from Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, and it was while serving his country that he found a passion for journalism. After discharge from the service, he attended St. Joseph's College, Philadelphia, and Kutztown University.
Bob was an award-winning journalist, beginning his career in 1961 as a "copy boy" for the Philadelphia Bulletin. His 45-year career included 17 years with the former Reading Times as a reporter, columnist and member of the editorial board. Bob ended his career in 2006 as Editor of the Eastern Pocono Community News.
One of Bob's greatest loves through the years was to spend summers in Ocean City, NJ with his family in their "second home." He was a longtime member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Parish, Shillington.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by their daughters Lisa Charlanza, Shillington, and Nicole Charlanza, Lincoln Park, as well as three grandchildren: Alyssa Charlanza, Mason and Cooper Leisey.
