Robert Bryan, 95, of Whitfield, passed away December 23, 2015, in the Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Jacob and Lillie (Mauger) Bryan.
He was a Reading High School graduate and served his country in WWII for 4 years as a Medic with an Army Air Corp B-17 group stationed In England. Later he received a BS in Education from Kutztown College, a Master's of Education from Temple University, and Masters of Engineering from Albright College.
Robert began his career teaching mathematics at Governor Mifflin High School, where he also coached basketball. In 1957 he began his Engineering career with Western Electric, from where he retired after 27 years.
Robert was an avid golfer and was a member of the Berks-Lebanon Senior Golf League, where he experienced his first hole-in-one at age 89. Robert was also a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church, the Telephone Pioneers, YR Club, Heidelberg Country Club, Green Valley Country Club, Olivet Boys Club, and a lifetime member of the Reading Basketball Old Timers. He thoroughly enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife, golfing with his son, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey, husband of Alba Bryan, Lower Heidelberg; and granddaughters: Alexandra, Kristina, and Victoria.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his siblings: Mary Bryan, Pearl Grubb, Edna Mascheri, Blanche Moter, Joel Bryan, and Clarence Bryan.
Services will be Monday, January 4, 2015, at 10 a.m. in West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave, Reading, PA 19609. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be held Sunday, January 3, 2015, from 3-5 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made on the West Lawn United Methodist Church website at www.westlawnumc.com. Please designate "Missions" and select the "Give" option at the top of the page.
