Robert Stephen Berger, 54, died February 11, 2010 in Reading Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was a son of the late Alvin and Edith M. (Levenson) Berger of Reading.
He was the former spouse of Lea Berger, Reading. He is survived by two daughters, Molly R. Berger, State College and Bethany S. Berger, Reading; and one brother, Dr. Barry M. Berger, husband of Kathleen A. Vieweg, Boston, MA.
Soon after graduating from American University in Washington DC with a BA in Criminal Justice, Robert returned to Reading and opened Bob's Shipwreck Pub located at 5 North 9th Street in Reading, which was subsequently sold, and also started his career in real estate. He worked extensively in the Reading Area in both personal and commercial real estate and developed a national practice in executive relocation services. Most recently he was the Vice President of Corporate and REO services at Prudential Landis Homesale Services in Wyomissing. He was certified in several areas pertaining to this specialty including the ABR, CRP, CRS, CSP and GRI designations.
Robert was a varsity wrestler at Muhlenberg High School and American University, winning many awards for both wrestling and judo. As an adult, he coached wrestling for elementary and middle school students through the Muhlenberg Township Athletic Association and took up karate.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends doing outdoor related activities. He was an avid sportsman and delighted in fresh water and saltwater fishing, especially off-shore catch and release shark fishing, SCUBA diving and horseback riding on vacation. His greatest passion was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in the company of friends around town and on long trips with the Berks County Hog Chapter.
A memorial gathering will be held in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave.,West Reading, PA 19611 (610.374.5440) from 12 to 1 p.m. with services beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 20.
