Rita Theresa Setta (nee Jaskowiak), 89, died on Monday, September 6, 2021, in Shillington, PA.
Rita was born on July 17,1932, in Philadelphia, PA, to Cecilia and John Jaskowiak. The oldest of three children, Rita spent her childhood in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia and graduated high school from St. Peter's Business School. Rita married Joseph B. Setta, Jr. on December 22, 1951, and the couple moved to Roslyn, PA in 1962.
Rita was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. More than anything, she loved spending time with and visiting her family. Rita was an excellent cook and enjoyed painting, needlework, knitting, and gardening. After high school she worked in Center City, Philadelphia and later worked part-time at Abington Hospital and Sears.
In 1989, Rita retired with her husband Joe to Fleetwood, Pennsylvania. Following his death, she was remarried to James Gay on September 22, 1996. She moved to Shillington in 2009.
Rita was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of St. John of the Cross in Roslyn, St. Mary's in Kutztown and Church of St. Benedict, Mohnton. She enjoyed sharing her faith through various volunteer activities with her church, including serving as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Pre-Cana instructor.
Rita is pre-deceased by her husbands, Joseph B. Setta, Jr, and James Gay; her son, Joseph B. Setta III; and her sister Joan DiSalvo. She is survived by; her brother, John Jaskowiak, OFM, of Boston; her children: Colleen Deely (Dennis), Gary Setta (Simone), Patricia Kane (Tom), Gregory Setta (Salli), Rita Setta, Kenneth Setta (Maruso), and Jennifer Setta; her grandchildren: Brendan, Tim, Jacqueline, Joseph, Mary Kate, Bryce, Kyle, Allison, Justin, Kurry, Alexa, Juliana, Liam, Dylan, John-Henry, Jasmine, and Walter; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Church of St. Benedict, 2020 Chestnut Hill Rd, Mohnton, PA 19540, with interment to follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery, 3797 County Line Road, Chalfont, PA. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the start of Mass at the Church.
