Richard W. Westberg

Richard Warren Westberg of Wyomissing, PA, 93, died on September 5 at his longtime home in The Highlands at Wyomissing.

Rich was born in Williston, ND, on February 19, 1922. He received a degree in chemical engineering from the University of North Dakota and a graduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. After graduating, he served in the Navy Reserve from 1944-46. He married Katherine "Snookie" Coliton of Grand Forks, ND, in 1950, and spent his entire career with Bell Laboratories where he participated in some of the early work on transistors. After he retired, Rich and Snookie drove across the country to spend summers at their beloved lake cabin in west-central Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, Oscar and Magna Westberg; and two brothers, Walter and Stephen. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and many good friends. Rich was a kind, generous soul with a wonderful sense of humor, and he will be greatly missed.
