Richard H. "Dick" Wertz, 83, formerly of Wyomissing and Cumru Twp., retired real estate business owner, died January 18, 2008 in the Lutheran Home at Topton, where he had resided since April 17, 2001.

His first wife, Margaret "Peggy" (Hepler) Wertz died July 6, 1977; and his second wife Patsy R. (Tennyson) Wertz died April 10, 2007.

Born in Newport, PA, he was a son of the late H. Ray and Jessie (Keough) Wertz.

He was a graduate of Newport High School, Newport, PA; and earned his bachelor of science degree from Penn State University, where he was a member of the alumni association. Dick played varsity baseball at Penn State, where he batted clean-up and was a team captain his junior and senior years.

Dick played professional baseball with the St. Louis Browns organization.

He was co-founder in 1961 of Wertz, Hoffman, Parks Realtors, Wyomissing Hills, retiring in 1998.

Dick was a past president of Greater Reading Board of Realtors. He was a former member of: Hawk Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America, where he also served as the District Chairman of the Cacoosing District, Board of Directors of Berks County Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club of Whitfield, Wyomissing and Shillington, Free and Accepted Masons, Reading Consistory and Rajah Temple.

He served in the United States Marine Corps, South Pacific Theatre, during WW II.

Dick was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Reading, where he served as a Deacon and Elder.

He is survived by his two sons, William D. husband of Angela G. Wertz, Mohnton and Robert W. husband of Robin L. Wertz, Wyomissing; two step-sons, Michael husband of Melanie Anderson, Wyomissing and Gregory Anderson husband of Renee, Ladera Ranch, CA; and one step-daughter, Catherine L. (Anderson) wife of Steve Kick, Leesburg, VA. Four grandchildren, C. Michelle Wertz, Eric T. Wertz, Benjamin R. Wertz and Jonathan R. Wertz; and six step-grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ray Wertz, Jr. and Jack Wertz.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association 225 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601. Edward J.
