Richard A. Weiherer, 79, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Elias) Weiherer. They married on August 21, 1976 and shared 48 wonderful years together.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Richard L. and Josephine (Pinkus) Weiherer. Richard graduated from Reading High School in 1963, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Kutztown State College in 1967, as well as his Master's Degree in Secondary Education in 1971. He taught at New Hanover-Upper Frederick (Boyertown Elementary), Muhlenberg High School, Wilson High School, Berks Technical Institute, and was an adjunct instructor at various local colleges, while also managing to work part-time for the PLCB. After retiring, he proudly worked at Kozloff-Stoudt.
Finding the words to truly describe who Richard "Rick" really was is not an easy task. He will be most remembered for how he deeply loved, protected, and prioritized his family above all else. He was enthusiastic, fun loving, generous, supportive, funny, reliable, incredibly intelligent, hardworking, respected, strong, perseverant, wise, so very loved, and so much more. Richard was unbelievably passionate in so many ways. He lit up the room when he spoke about his grandkids, family, animals, told a joke or memory, and shared his knowledge. With his whole heart, he appreciated the little things, because after all they are the most important. He enjoyed spending time with his family, animals, watching boxing and wrestling, Notre Dame football, the Eagles, all things basketball, reading, writing letters to the editor, current events, educating others, history, politics, Model U.N., Debate Club, Wildwood, NJ, and making the world a better place.
In addition to his loving wife, Mary Ann, his memory will be cherished by his children: Elisa Hoover (Brian), Brandon Weiherer (Michelle), and Christopher Weiherer (Erica); as well as his grandchildren: Lilly Weiherer, Carter Weiherer, Kate Hoover, Ingmar Redahan, and Rolf Weiherer; his cousins: James Bush and Marilyn Zinn.
The funeral service for Richard will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 4p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading. A viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until the start of the service.
