Richard D. Wanner

Richard D. Wanner, 76, Muhlenberg Twp., died August 3, 2007.

He was the husband of Marisa Zapppacosta Wanner. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva (Camilli) Wanner.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Donald and Marie (Dillon) Wanner.

He was a graduate from Central Catholic High School in 1949 and Albright College in 1959.

Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal.

He was Assistant Personnel Director for CNA Insurance, Reading from 1959 to 1965. He then became Director of Industrial Relations at Carpenter Technology from 1965 until his retirement on March 1, 1986. From 1986 to 1991 he was the Human Resources Manager for The Gooding Group, Ephrata.

Richard was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

He was a member of the American Society for Training and Development and served on the Board of Directors for the Berks County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

He is also survived by one son, Eric R., Kenhorst; two step-sons, Robert Zappacosta, Exeter Twp. and Joseph Zappacosta, Temple; and two step-daughters, Patricia Shipe, Robesonia and Rita Galantuomo, Kenhorst. Eight step-grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by one brother, James Wanner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the Mass at the church.
