Richard Blair "Rick" Van Reed, 71, passed away May 14, 2016 in his West Lawn residence.
He was the beloved husband of Lynne (Herzog) Van Reed, whom he married October 21, 1967.
Born in Reading, Rick was the son of the late Harrison and Carrie (Hoster) Van Reed.
He was employed by Reading Truck Body as a welder.
Rick was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching movies and TV, especially professional wrestling with his son, Bill. He also enjoyed golfing with his friend Charlie, fishing with his cousin, Bruce and dancing with his wife Lynne. Rick loved the Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles; and going to the Ranch House for lunch with his wife, where all the waitresses adored him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Lorri Lynne Talys, West Lawn, and William Van Reed, companion of Tammie Delp, West Lawn. Rick is also survived by his siblings, Jere Van Reed and his family, Michael Van Reed and his family; step granddaughter, Kelsey, wife of Timothy Palatucci; bonus grandchildren, Amanda, Elizabeth and Randall; step great grandchildren, Landon, Oliver and baby to be Sadie; five bonus great grandchildren; cousin, Bruce Hoster, and beloved cat, Tinky.
Rick was predeceased by his brother, Barry Van Reed.
The family would like to thank all the McGlinn Cancer Center staff, including the valet workers who referred to Mrs. Van Reed as the "Cher Lady", all the chemotherapy nurses, Dr. Patrick Colarusso and his nurse, Mary Jo. A thank you also to all the hospice nurses who had come to the house and cared for Richard.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Due to the health of Mrs. Van Reed, Mr. Richard Van Reed's wishes were that the service be immediate family only.
