Richard J. Sweigart

Richard J. Sweigart, 83, passed away on January 5, 2025, at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Jean R. (Horning) Sweigart.

Born in Brecknock Township, he was the son of the late Floyd S. and Florence A. (Stoner) Sweigart. Richard graduated from Cocalico High School in 1959 and the Reading Business Institute in 1961. He was employed in the administration department of ICI Paints (Glidden) for 42 years, retiring in 2003. He also served his country as a member of the Army Reserves.

Richard was a member of St. Ignatius RCC and the Cocalico Valley Historical Society. He also was a volunteer and guide for the Berks Heritage Center.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Rebecca Schafer, wife of Darryl, of Cherry Valley, NY, son, Matthew Sweigart of Mohnton, grandchildren, Ayla and Cora Schafer, and brothers, Edward and William Sweigart.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
