Richard Oren Sherry

Richard "Dick" Oren Sherry passed away on July 28, 2024. He lived in Davenport, FL, with his wife of 68 years, Donna L. Sherry. Born in Pottsville, PA, Dick graduated Schuylkill Haven High School before attending Temple University for undergraduate studies, and Villanova, where he received his Masters. Richard was also a Mason.

Dick worked in the West Reading and Wyomissing school districts as a teacher and principal and was a basketball coach for 25 years. He won three state championships for the West Reading Cowboys. He was selected for both the Berks and Schuylkill County Basketball Halls of Fame, and he is in the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA with his 1961 team.

Dick owned many businesses in Wildwood, New Jersey, as well as Herman's, an ice cream shop in Topton, PA. His family and faith in God were the two most important aspects of his life.

Left to treasure his memory are wife, Donna; daughters, Cynthia Cook, wife of Gary Cook, of Galloway, NJ, and Deborah Desrosiers of Kutztown, PA; grandsons: Brian Cook, Brandon Cook, and Bradley Desrosiers; and great grandson, Mason Cook, son of Brian Cook. He was predeceased by grandson, Daniel Desrosiers.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 5:30 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:30 pm until the time of service.
