Richard Eugene Pentz, Sr., 84, died October 22, 2010 in his Reading residence.
He was the husband of Dolores Mae (Hilberg) Pentz, whom he married June 11, 1949.
Born June 17, 1926 in Reading, he was a son of the late Joseph Stephen and Eva Marie (Schreiber) Pentz.
Richard was a 1944 graduate of Muhlenberg High School, a 1952 graudate of Kutztown University where he received a B.S. in Education and a graduate of Temple University, where he received a Master's Degree.
He was employed with Boyertown Area School District for 30 years, retiring in 1982. The first thirteen years he was an educator and the last 17 years, he was Assistant Principal.
Richard was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of St. Margaret's R.C. Church, Reading.
Richard was a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, BORSEA - Retired Teachers, Berks County Retired Teacher's Association, National Guard Club, PSERS, Christian Club, where he was also past President, and he was an Ombudsman, Lewistown.
He also volunteered with Red Cross, Children and Youth Services, Meals on Wheels, and Homeless Shelter, Lewistown.
Richard enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening and was a major history buff.
Surviving are three children: Richard E., Jr., husband of Diane L. (Miller) Pentz of Brecknock Township; James S. Pentz of Pike Township and Carole A. (Pentz), wife of Mark L. Candidi of Williamstown, NJ.
Other survivors include, Frances R., widow of Anthony Strangarity of Greenfields, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's R. C. Church, 925 Centre Avenue, Reading. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery.
