Richard Trefsgar, 85, of Reading, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Berks Heim with his wife by his side.
He was the loving husband of Joanne L. (Gross) Trefsgar. They were married for 63 years.
Born in Shamokin, he was son of the late Elmer and Claire (Mauray) Trefsgar.
He was a 1957 graduate of Reading High School.
Richard served our nation proudly and valiantly in the US Navy aboard the USS Nitro.
Richard worked at Dana Corporation for 34 years, starting as a press operator and retiring as a foreman.
As an active participant in the West Reading Police Cadets, he showcased his musical talent by playing the trombone. Additionally, he dedicated his time to performing with the Brass in Praise ensemble, demonstrating his passion for music. Alongside his musical endeavors, he wholeheartedly supported the Reading Buccaneers, displaying his enthusiasm for the local community. Furthermore, he selflessly volunteered at the Food Pantry of Hope Lutheran Church, exemplifying his commitment to helping those in need.
He was a member of Frieden's Lutheran Church, Oley.
Richard was the ultimate family man who felt that his family was everything to him; he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Kathleen M., wife of Jeffrey Schaeffer, Temple, Cheryl L., wife of Theodore Krug, Reading, and Deborah L., wife of Christopher Drago, Downingtown; six grandchildren: Joshua Schaeffer, Benjamin Schaeffer, Zachary Krug, Alicia (Krug) Healy, Patrick Lloyd Drago, and Bradley Drago; and one great grandson, Chase Healy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff on A2 at Berks Heim for their compassionate care and to John S. for the extraordinary care he gave to Richard and the family.
Services will be Monday. May 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial to follow at Lauraldale Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
