Richard R. Miller

Richard R. Miller, 81, of Riverview Park, went home to be with the Lord on October 3, 2009, in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He is the husband of Joyce K. Miller. His first wife, Jean E. (Mengel) Miller, passed away December 22, 1990.

Born in Reading on September 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Ralph W., and Emma G. (Solt) Miller.

Richard was a 1946 graduate of Ontelaunee Vocational School. He was employed as a furnace operator for Carpenter Technology, retiring in 1987.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in post WWII Japan.

Richard was a member of Trinity U.C.C., Leesport.

He was also a member of the Goodwill Beneficiary Association.

Richard's interests included WWII aircraft, tomato gardening, antique cars and he was a lover of bulldogs. He was also an avid reader, especially of history.

He is survived by his son: Jeffrey R., husband of Lori K. (Wagner) Miller, Shoemakersville; his two daughters: Diane J., wife of Harold B. Hamilton, Muhlenberg Township; Tracy L., wife of Chris Okonski, Muhlenberg Township; and his two step-daughters: Christine A., wife of Kurt Grafe, Huntsville, TX; Melissa K. Host, Leesport. Five grandchildren: Ashley J. Hamilton, Jordan R. Hamilton, Matthew J. Miller, Dylan S. Okonski and Taylor J. Okonski also survive him.

Richard was predeceased by his brother, Ulysses Nace.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Trinity U.C.C., Leesport. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. A viewing will be held Wednesday night 6 - 8 p.m. in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale and also one hour prior to service in the church.
