Richard Leon Waninger, 82, of Cumru Township, passed away September 3, 2013, in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
Born in Reading, Richard was the son of the late Leon Alois and Margaret (Morgan) Waninger.
Richard was a 1949 graduate of Reading High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen, the following January, and began work for UGI. He joined the Army and served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. After his honorable discharge from the US Army he returned to the "gas company" where he worked in industrial marketing. He retired in 1989 after 39 years of service to UGI.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his three sons: Lee and wife Dorothy, Claymont, DE; Eric and wife Linda, McKinney, TX; and Kurt and late wife Melissa of Dublin, OH. Also surviving is his sister, Jean and husband Jack, Sinking Spring. Eight grandchildren, Kimberly, Brent, Megan, Nathan, Julia, Evan, Kristopher and Catherine also survive him.
A viewing will be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with words of remembrance beginning at 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
