Richard C. Kunkel

Richard C. Kunkel, 69 of Hamburg died October 26 in the Laurel Center, Tilden Township where he resided the past 7 weeks. Richard was the loving husband of Betty J. (Adam) Kunkel of Hamburg. He was born in Albany Township and was the son of the late Leroy C. and Margaret M. (Riegel) Kunkel. Richard was a member of the Mohrsville Church of the Brethren and a 1959 graduate of Kutztown High School. Richard worked as a quality control clerk for Penn Steel, Hamburg for 36 years retiring in 2001. His hobbies included cake decorating, cooking, and gardening especially working with flowers, and dancing. Richard and Betty enjoyed cruises all over the world. In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 daughters: Janice wife of Jose Santiago, Muhlenberg, Pamela wife of David Ferkin, Reading, 1 sister, Mary Jane widow of John Kelly, Tilden Township, 6 grandchildren, Frederick Saylor, Timothy Saylor, SR, Todd Saylor, Rebecca Althouse, Brandon Smith and Zachary Ferkin, and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Stanley L. Kunkel in 1964. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from the Mohrsville Church of the Brethren, 1542 Shoemakersville Road, Mohrsville. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. Hamburg and on Monday from 10:00 AM till time of service in the church.
