Richard H. Kessler

Richard Harry Kessler, 67, of 208 South Home Avenue, Topton, Pa 19562 and formerly of Muhlenberg Township died February 9th at 8:20 am in St. Joseph Hospital where he had been since Monday.

He was the widower of Kathryn L. (Zettlemoyer) Kessler, who died July 11, 1989.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Russell and Catherine (Ansel) Kessler.

He worked for over 45 years at Reading Truck Body, Reading last working as a supervisor January 27th.

Kessler was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Fleetwood.

He was the Assistant Fire Chief at Goodwill (Hyde Park) Fire Company in 1967 and 1968.

Kessler previously served as the President of Goodwill (Hyde Park) Fire Company in 1965 and 1966.

He was also a member of Junior Fire Company, Reading; Berks County Fire Chiefs Association and the Keystone Fire Chiefs Association.

Kessler is survived by a daughter, Donna M. (Kessler) wife of Brian Kissinger of Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include two sons, Richard H. Kessler, Jr., of Reading and Bradley A. husband of Julianne Kessler of Reading.

He is also survived by a brother, Russell Kessler of West Lawn and two sisters, Jackie (Kessler) Hess of Muhlenberg Township and Barbara Kessler of Reading.

Kessler is also survived by his friend Kathleen A. (Thornton) Stetka with who he resided and two grandchildren, Elijah B. Kissinger and McKenna K. Kessler.

Services will be Saturday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Rev. Colleen G. Kristula officiating. Viewing Saturday 9:00 am until time of service. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Medical Center, c/o The Cancer Unit, 12th and Walnut Streets, Reading, Pa 19603.
