Richard Jacob Wanner

Richard J. Wanner, 91, formerly of Spring Township, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in his apartment at Phoebe Berks. He was the widower of Ann-Louise Wanner, who passed away on October 17, 2014.

Born in Greenwich Township to the late Jacob G. and Irene M. (Phillips) Wanner, Richard was the eldest of their four children. As a carpenter, he started his career with Securda & Company before establishing his own construction and remodeling business in 1970 which he operated for over 40 years until his retirement.

Richard was passionate about his work, and his motivation was always to provide for his family. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his farm, both the fruit trees and the animals. With his wife he enjoyed polka dancing and traveling. They went on many adventures together, including Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and through the Western United States.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church.

Left to treasure Richard's memory are his children: Sharon A. Heckman, wife of Terry L., Muhlenberg Township; Lois A. Shelton, wife of Charles, Mt. Airy, NC; William R. Wanner, Reinholds; and Stephen R. Wanner, husband of Catherine, Bernville; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one more expected great grandchild. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Fisher and Irene Mayer, and brother, Lee Wanner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the start of Mass. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
