Richard G. Hoffmaster, 71, of Spring Township, died March 19, 2015 in St. Joseph Hospital.
He was the husband of Jean J. (Andresky) Hoffmaster.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Donald and Marian (Merkel) Hoffmaster.
He was a 1961 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. He was a three sport Varsity athlete. Whether it be on the football field, basketball court or baseball diamond he was bound to be there. He was a fiery guard that paced the field and a colorful catcher on the baseball team. In 1957 he was a member of the CE Cole Jr High School County Championship Football Team. In 1960 he was selected to the All County Football Team as well as a participant on the Reading Times All-Star Berks County Football Team. He acted as defensive captain his senior year.
In 1962 Dick started his career with Reading Steel Products. He later became a Truck Driver for Carpenter Technology. During his 19 years of service Dick was inducted into the Million Mile Club by the National Safety Council, achieving one million miles driven accident free.
In 1984 Dick began his coaching career at Wyomissing Area High School. His first position was as an assistant football coach from 1984-2012. He was assistant baseball coach from 1988-2003. He was assistant girls' basketball coach from 2003-2006. Known as "Poppa Dick" to his Wyomissing Family he had an iconic presence in both the dugout and the sidelines. After serving 20 years of love and commitment to Spartan Athletics, Coach Hoffmaster was inducted to the Gold Leaf society by Berks County Interscholastic Athletic Association. In 1993 he was assistant coach to the State Runner Up Baseball Team. In 2012, Coach Hoffmaster's dream came true. His mighty Spartans took a 17-14 win to bring home the State Championship. In 2014 Coach Hoffmaster was inducted into the Wyomissing Football Hall of Fame for his countless hours spent helping to impact so many young men-building so many special relationships over the years with players and coaches.

Dick loved his family, he is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jean Hoffmaster. He will be greatly missed by 2 daughters, Melissa Nally, fiancé of Mark Falter Jr. and Jennifer Porter, wife of Chris Porter. He also is survived by 3 grandchildren. Meredith Nally, Liam "sporty boy" Porter and Morgan Porter. There is also a step-grandson, Noah Falter. The family is extremely grateful to the loving and caring staff at both the Berkshire Center and St. Joseph Medical Center. A special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Andrew Waxler, Brenda Kauffman, Dr. Francis Quigley, Dr. Adam Rubin, Dr. J. Marc Aynardi, Dr. Timothy Stringer and Dr. Laura Guerin.
He was predeceased by his brother, Eugene Hoffmaster and his sister, Judy Rivers.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
