Richard (Dick) Henry Pratt, 85, formerly of Spring Township and recently of The Highlands at Wyomissing, passed away peacefully in his residence the afternoon of Thursday, July 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Springfield, MA, to the late Henry and Anna (Shea) Pratt, Dick studied Industrial Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He settled as a young man in the Reading area and enjoyed a 33 year career as an engineer with Western Electric / AT&T.
He is survived by sons: David, and wife Sharon, of Coplay; Robert, and wife Theresa Szymborski, of Muhlenberg Township; daughter Kelly Schreffler of Sinking Spring; his seven grandchildren, Amanda (wife of Kevin), Eric, Colin, Tristan, Andrew, Heather, and Penny; his two great granddaughters, Tessa and Seneca; and his sister Marcia Sullivan of Fayetteville, NC.
Dick was predeceased by his first wife Helen (Cullen) in 1967, his second wife Penny (Klinka) in 1985, and his longtime companion, Mary Devlin, in 2017. He was also predeceased by his brother, Gerald, in 2014.
Dick was a man of great faith who was devoted to his church, family and friends. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church. After his retirement from AT&T in 1990, he became the Director of Facilities for St. Ignatius and also served as a Eucharistic minister and greeter.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick's memory may be offered to St. Ignatius, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Reading, PA 19608.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, by Rev. Thomas Bortz at 10:00 AM at St. Ignatius Church, 2600 St Albans Drive, Reading, with committal services to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Dick's family will receive guests Tuesday, August 3, from 6-8:00 PM at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, and again Wednesday from 9-9:45 AM at the church.
