Richard J. Gruber

Richard Joseph Gruber, 80, died July 22, 2010 in his Muhlenberg Township residence.

He was the husband of Elaine M. (Kurtz) Gruber, whom he married September 12, 1953.

Born in Reading, PA on February 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Francis A. and Helen (Harak) Gruber.

Richard was a 1947 graduate of Reading Catholic High School.

He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Muhlenberg Township.

Richard was employed thirty-three years with Carpenter Technology, Reading, before retiring as a foreman in 1992.

He was an Air Force Veteran.

Richard is also survived by three children: Susan E., wife of Wayne H. Settle of Shillington; Teresa M., wife of Stephen J. Baker of Exeter Township and Kathleen L., wife of Barry N. Adam of Mesa, Arizona.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael Richard Gruber, who died June 15, 1987.

Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Todd, Jarrad, Shannon, Ryan, Chad, Michelle, Sarah, Stephen, Karli, Rachel and Zachary.

There are also nine great grandchildren surviving.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605, with Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis celebrating. A viewing will be held Monday from 8:30 - 9:30 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
