Richard Payne Gleason, 56, Mohnton, died Feb. 18, 2009, in Lebanon County. He was the husband of Mette (Nodland) Gleason.
Born in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late John and Phyllis (Payne) Gleason.
Richard graduated from The Hill School, Pottstown. He attended American University in Washington, D.C., and received his degree from Albright College in Reading. After college, he backpacked through Europe, and also worked as a chef at Fagleysville Hotel in the Pottstown area. He self-published a children's book, "Sprout," in 1985.
Richard was an avid skier and scuba diver, and achieved a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
He was the senior vice president of wealth management and senior institutional consultant for Smith-Barney, Wyomissing.
Richard and his family are members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohnton.
He was a loving and devoted father to his two daughters, Alyssa and Brigitte, both at home. Richard enjoyed following his children's sports and endeavors.
Other survivors include his sister, Colleen Norheim, Douglassville; and two nieces, Karen and Stephanie.
He was also survived by his mother and father-in-law Sue and Kaane Nodland.
Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, One Front Street, Mohnton. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday noon to 1:30 p.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Educational Fund for Alyssa and Brigitte Gleason c/o Mette Gleason at Smith Barney, 1350 Broadcasting Road, Wyomissing, PA 19610 and/or the Juvenile Diabetes Association, Suite 103, 119 Aster Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112, or the charity of choice.
