Richard W. Gerner

Richard "Dick" W. Gerner, 76 of Windsor Township died June 7, 2016 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Darlene M. (Skinner) Gerner to whom he was married 57 years. Richard was born in Hamburg and was the son of the late James and Mabel (Fox) Gerner. He was a United States Navy veteran serving from 1958 to 1961. He proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Boston CAG1. Richard worked at Carpenter-Technology for 32 years in the Mechanical Maintenance Department retiring 1999. He was a life member of Wagner-Good Post 216 V.F.W, Hamburg and the Hamburg Rod and Gun Club. Additionally Richard was a member of American Legion-Behler-Hein Post 637, Shartlesville Fire Company, Keystone Social Club, Hamburg Historical Society, U.S.S. Boston Shipmates and a Charter Member of the Beaver Valley Bushwackers. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Christine M. wife of Robert Benson, Shoemakersville, Richard S. Gerner, Hamburg and Todd D. husband of Lori Gerner, Leesport, and grandchildren, Heather M. Benson, Chelsea A. Benson, Brandon S. Gerner, Adele L. King, Shane M. husband of Jess Gerner and Kyle A. Gerner. Richard is also survived by his siblings, James husband of Carole Gerner, Joseph husband of Brenda Gerner, Gene husband of Susan Gerner, all of Hamburg, Thomas husband of Faye Gerner, Shartlesville, Gerald husband of Cindy Gerner, Tilden Township, and Janice VanEtten, Auburn. His two feline friends, Buddy and Benny, also survive him. Two sisters, Rosalie Bowers and Sharon Ross, predeceased Richard. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 13th at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, PA. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
