Richard R. Gasser

Richard R. (Dick) Gasser of West Reading, son of Harvey and Emma (Kissling) Gasser was born in Reading and entered Eternal Life in Reading Hospital on June 25th, exactly one month before his 91st birthday. He was a graduate of Reading High School and Wharton Business School and spent 4 1/2 years in military service in World War II, serving with the 8th Air Force in England, achieving rank of 1st Lieutenant. He worked 40 years as an accountant, then comptroller for Beryllium Corp. and Kawecki Chemical Company, Kawecki-Beryllium Corp. bought by Cabot Corporation. After retiring he assisted Thomas Weik in forming Weik Investment Services, Inc. and worked there part time for 20 years.

Among Dick's service to his community were years on the staff of West Reading Lions' Club and as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Council member and Adult Bible Class teacher for Bethany Lutheran Church, West Reading. He also served 13 years as Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Poetry Society, Inc.

Dick is survived by Lois Anne (Brubaker) Gasser, his wife of 66 years, his son, Glenn R. Gasser and wife Janet (Petner) of Jensen Beach, Florida, his daughter, Pamela A., wife of Kendell Chilton, grandchildren Cassie and Sam Chilton of Southborough, Massachusetts, and a brother, Walter Robert Gasser of Stony Creek Mills.

A Memorial Service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
