Richard A. "Dick" Furnanage, 77 of Perry Township died in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center on January 29th, 2011. He was the husband of Rose M. (Bindus) Furnanage and had celebrated 52 years of marriage on June 21st, 2010. Dick was born in Hazleton and was the son of the late Nicholas and Helen (Kravitz) Furnanage. He was a 1950 graduate of Hazle Township High School and was the valedictorian. Dick served in the Army during the Korean War and was a 1958 graduate of the Penn State Campus in Hazleton, PA. He worked for 32 years as an electrical engineer for Lucent Technologies, Reading and retired in 1990. Dick was a member of St. Mary Church, Tilden Township. He was a member of the St. Mary Holy Name Society, and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was a former zoning officer for Perry Township for 15 years and also served on the Perry planning commission. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 daughter, Sandra A. wife of Todd W. Oxenreider, Penn Township, 1 son Richard J. husband of Linda Furnanage, Upper Tulpehocken Township, 4 grandchildren, Mitchell and Tyler Furnanage and Logan and Olivia Oxenreider. Dick was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas G. Furnanage. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 11:00 AM from St. Mary Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg, PA. 19526. A viewing will be held in the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. There will also be a Friday evening viewing from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th St., Hamburg, PA. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Hamburg and be private. There will be no funeral procession on Saturday morning from the funeral home to the church.
