Richard E. Yoder, 88, of Spring Township, went home to be with his heavenly Father on May 2, 2013 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the faithful husband of Margaret Anne (Kern) Yoder whom he married 62 years ago on February 10, 1951.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Guy L. and Rachel Rebecca (Gaul) Yoder.

He was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 13th Field Artillery Observation Battalion in Europe during WW II.

Richard worked for Bell Telephone for over 31 years, retiring in October of 1982.

He was a former member of Grace E.C. Church, Reading and more recently a member of Zion E.C. Church, Mohnton.

Richard loved his family, gardening, bird watching, bicycling, taking bus tours and traveling by train.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Marjorie E., wife of Rev. E. Paul Albrecht, Indianapolis, IN; Richard D., husband of Rachael Yoder, Wyomissing; Lynn A., wife of Robert Hivner, Lancaster and Thomas E., husband of Heidi Yoder, Sinking Spring. Twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive him.

He was predeceased by his brothers Robert Yoder and William Yoder.

Services will be Thursday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion E.C. Church, Mohnton with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
